My Story - I’m Still Standing!!!

Many years ago, a traumatic event left me ruled by insecurity. I existed for decades feeling self-conscious, insignificant, and unworthy around everyone.  I lived under the notion that people couldn’t like me - and spent most of life disliking myself.   Publicly, I functioned without ever acknowledging these feelings - inside, I was powerless to the insecurity.  It consumed me.

To overcome self-doubt - I overcompensated by throwing my entire existence into a career as marketing/business development executive.  I was entrenched in a hectic, deadline-driven existence – independent of my own presence.

I researched yoga, and added it to “shake up” a workout routine that included running, weights, and aerobics – and life forever changed.

What I discovered in yoga was much more than a great physical work out.  I learned that the power of yoga brought serenity – something that was desperately missing from life.  The physical benefits helped by combining strength and flexibility, but the inner-presence brought mindfulness and calm.  After yoga practice - I was happy with me.

The time that I spent on the yoga mat felt healthy, right, and good.  I researched yoga, attended workshops, and ultimately attended teacher training, earning my certification.

Fast forward – present day.  I’ve been teaching for years, and I still struggle to manage some feelings of insecurity - EXCEPT when I am guiding a yoga practice (and within my personal practice). Those feelings don’t even exist in that world.

Students that attend my classes experience their personal freedom.   Free to be who they are, at the level they are; on that day, on their mat.  It's welcoming environment of good music and expression, fostering students of all abilities and mindsets.  They leave centered, with a sense of accomplishment, and feel great about themselves.

As a yoga practitioner, I truly feel like I am sharing something worthwhile. I want my friends, family, and community to feel as good as I feel when I practice and teach yoga. I want them to like themselves, and feel safe.   I’ve committed to teaching with the goal to facilitate making that happen.
